France to support electrification with 15.36 million

electricity-collumsA financial agreement for the implementation of a new Economic and Social cooperation programme between France and Afghanistan, worth a total amount of 15.36 million Euros, was signed today by  Minister of Finance, Dr. Omar Zakhilwal, and H.E. the french Ambassador Jean-Michel Marlaud.


The project has 3 components as below:

1.Electrification
2.Agriculture and Rural Development
3.Health

The first component of the project in partnership with the Ministry of Energy and Water, Da Afghanistan Breshna Sherkat (DABS) and the engineering firm Integration, this aid will contribute to the financing of a new electrification project in the province of Kapisa.

 This electrification project will cost a total of 17.5 million Euros and will be co-financed by the Islamic Republic of Afghanistan which will contribute 3 million Euros. The project follows a first tranche of the electrification programme connecting the cities of Mahmoud-e-Raqi and Nijrab to the power network of Kabul.

This second tranche will see the connection of the valley of Tagab to the dam of Naghlu. In the next days, the French Development Agency – Agence Française du Développement - together with the general contractor of the project Integration, will sign the contracts enabling the immediate launch of the construction work.

The French aid to Kapisa continues in the framework of the Friendship Treaty signed between France and Afghanistan with the objective of supporting Afghan institutions and its population in order to develop and strengthen the local economy and facilitate the access to basic services.
