USAIDThe United States will contribute an additional $30 million to help the United Nations’ World Food Program (WFP) provide food and nutrition assistance to 3.7 million food-insecure Afghans.

The contribution by the United States Agency for International Development (USAID) is part of an ongoing international effort to improve food security and nutrition for Afghans, particularly natural-disaster victims, the internally displaced and those living in chronic poverty.

Malnourished children, school children and pregnant women also receive assistance under the WFP program, whose work focuses on Afghanistan’s 184 most food-insecure districts.

Since 2010, USAID has provided more than 270,722 metric tons of mixed commodities valued at some $365.5 million to WFP’s operations in Afghanistan.
