Congratulating the nation on the completion of the second round of the presidential vote, President Hamid Karzai on Saturday expressed his grief over the loss of lives on the Election Day.
In a video message, the president said: “I congratulate all Afghans on the successful election. We have proved once again that we are a brave nation and know our interests. Following the election, God willing, Afghanistan will gain more prosperity and stability. I also congratulate both candidates.”
On the Election Day, a number of civilians were killed and wounded in attacks by the enemies of Afghanistan, he deplored. “I offer my condolences to the families who lost their near and dear ones in today’s attacks.”
Exact casualty figures are yet to be available, but Interior Minister Omar Daudzai said the militants conducted 150 attacks on the Election Day, killing and wounding a number of people.
Interior Ministry spokesman Ghulam Siddique Siddiqui tweeted that 29 fighters had been killed during the past 24 hours.
