The Independent Election Commission’s media wing on Tuesday warned some media outlets to pay the fines imposed on them or file appeals within the next four days.
The organisations failing to meet the deadline would be referred to the Attorney-General Office, Hashmatullah Radfar, acting chief of the IEC media commission, told journalists.
He said 23 media organisations had been fined for releasing biased and partial news items during the time of silence at the end of the election campaign.
Tolo, Rah-i-Farda, Negah, Aina, Daawat, Afghan and Batoor Jawzjan Television channels, Nida, Dunya and Suli Paigham Radio channels, as well as Mandigar daily, are to pay the fines.
But Negah, Rah-i-Farda and Jwandoon channels have appealed the penalties. In order to resolve media problems and ensure balanced coverage of the electoral process, he suggested amendments to the election law.
