At least 27 insurgents were killed during nationwide operations led by the Afghan National Security Forces (ANSF) in the past 24 hours, the Ministry of Interior (MoI) said in a statement on Sunday.
Three insurgents were injured and 12 others arrested in these operations, ANSF officials said.
These operations were conducted in Kunar, Kandahar, Ghazni and Helmand provinces, the statement said, adding that the security forces have also discovered explosive devices and weapons.
"During the same 24 hour period, the police discovered and defused four different types of IEDs placed by insurgents in Takhar, Faryab and Herat provinces," it said.
The statement, however, did not provide details of possible ANSF casualties.
The ANSF have recently increased clearing operations across the country after taking over full security responsibility from NATO-led international troops who have ended their combat mission in Afghanistan.
