A policeman, who defused more than 6000 landmines, was on Monday appreciated and promoted to the next rank, the Ministry of Interior said.
Staff Sergeant Abdul Ghafoor Afghan Yar has defused more than 6000 improvised explosive devices during the last few years in southern Helmand province.
The MoI in a statement said Deputy Interior Minister Mohammad Ayub Salangi presented an appreciation certificate to Afghan Yar at his office and promoted him to the next rank on Monday.
Afghan Yar was one of the policemen who performed duty in dangerous conditions and in insecure areas of Helmand, said Salangi.
He said Afghan Yar had saved many precious lives and discharged his duty without fear and with a high morale.
