Despite the armed insurgents' attempts to create security threats during Eid-ul-Adha festival, the Afghan forces managed to thwart their plans and people celebrated Eid in a peaceful environment.
The Ministry of Interior (MoI) said that insurgents had plotted to disrupt security situations during Eid, but security forces had succeeded in preventing from carrying out attacks.
"Operations were ongoing across the country. These resulted in the killing of eight insurgents and several others were arrested," MoI spokesman Sediq Sediqqi said.
However, 24 civilians were injured in a blast at a mosque in Farah over Eid, MoI said.
In addition however: "During three days of Eid, 20 plots of the enemy were foiled."
Some Afghan citizens have also paid tribute to the services of the Afghan security forces for safeguarding the people against the threats posed by the militants.
"We spent a happy Eid because of the services of security forces and there was no bloodshed," Humaira Saqib, chairperson of Afghan Women Network said.
"We hope that security is restored in our country, but for this there should be coordination and harmony among security forces and the people, this could prove constructive in maintaining security in the country," political analyst Abdul Ghafar Ekhlas Saighani said.
