Afghanistan and China signed three cooperation agreements

Mohammad Ashraf Ghani, President of the Islamic Republic of Afghanistan, welcomed this morning Li Yuanchao, the Vice President of the People's Republic of China, who was in Kabul on an official trip.


The President then held a meeting with the Vice President of the People’s Republic of China and discussed ways to further expand relations between the two countries in different areas.

In the meeting the two sides exchanged views on ways to turn Afghanistan into one of the main trade hubs and economic and cultural centers in the Asian continent.
The two sides also talked about the gas pipeline, railway network and road construction projects that would further broaden relations between the two countries.

The Chinese side hoped that with completion of the mentioned projects, economic relations between the two countries and other countries of the region will get further expanded.
The President and Vice President of the People’s Republic of China also talked about the shared threats that terrorism poses hampering stability, prosperity and regional cooperation, and underscored joint action to eliminate this heinous phenomenon. 

The Vice President of China vowed that the People’s Republic of China will provide 50 educational scholarship for Afghan students in addition to its previous commitments.
After the meeting, Afghanistan’s Minister of Finance and China’s Deputy Minister of Commerce signed three cooperation agreements in the presence of President Ghani and Vice President Li Yuanchao on installation of scanning devices for detection of explosives at the four entry gates of Kabul, technical cooperation with the vocational institute of education of Afghanistan and construction of residential apartments worth 500 million Chinese Yuan.

After signing the agreements, President Ghani said in his remarks that the trip by the Chinese delegation to Afghanistan is a great step towards strengthening cooperation between the two countries.
Thanking China for its support for Afghanistan in different areas, the President said that the residential apartments will first be allotted to the families of the National Army, National Police and National Security martyrs and then to the civil servants.
President Ghani thanked the Vice President of the People’s Republic of China for offering further scholarships to Afghan students.
Vice President Li Yuanchao said that China is a good partner to the people and government of Afghanistan. He added that the cooperation agreements are a sign of friendship between China and Afghanistan.
Li Yuanchao added: we hope that cooperation between the two countries can ensure peace, development and prosperity for the people of Afghanistan.
