Directorate General of Regional Cooperation of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs of the Islamic Republic of Afghanistan launched and announced the result of a study named “Security cooperation in the heart of Asia region” conducted by (ATR) and funded by European Union.
In a ceremony held on this occasion in the Ministry of Foreign Affairs this afternoon, attended by Ambassadors, representatives of countries, members of organizations and supporters of the Heart of Asia-Istanbul process, Deputy Foreign Minister Hekmat Khalil Karzai talked on the importance of this study and its role in the identification of regional challenges and security cooperation in the region, and said that “strengthening regional dialogue, finding regional market for Afghanistan’s products, extending diplomatic endeavors for strengthening relations and security cooperation between regional countries can play an effective role in the stability of the region”. Meanwhile, Deputy Ambassador of the European Union to Kabul Mr. Stephen Huber stressed on the importance and need of regional cooperation especially in the area of security and emphasized on the European Union support for cooperation between regional countries. Managing director of ATR Anne Jasim also presented to participants the summary of the study on regional cooperation in the heart of Asia region. It is worth mentioning that the aim of this study conducted independently is to identify challenges and opportunities in the Heart of Asia-Istanbul process in the field of security and regional cooperation with particular attention to the security situation of Afghanistan. In this study, security experts from 14 member countries of the Heart of Asia-Istanbul process were interviewed and also the online survey and regional media monitoring techniques were used in conducting this study.
