Minister Hakimi met with Ambassador Hashem Youssef, Assistance Secretary General for Humanitarian Affairs of the Organization of Islamic Cooperation (OIC) and Mr. Rashid Khalikov, Assistant Secretary General for Humanitarian Partnerships with the Middle East and Central Asia of the United Nations (UN).
They discussed regional economic cooperation and humanitarian challenges faced by Afghanistan, in particular those related to Refugees and IDPs. Mr. Youssef offered OIC’s support to work with Muslim countries to assist Afghanistan as part of the preparations for the Brussels meeting. The Brussels Conference on Afghanistan (BCA) will be held on 5 October with two side events, one on gender and another on regional economic cooperation scheduled for 4 October 2016. Minister Hakimi while appreciating the offer by the OIC emphasized on the constructive role the Muslim world can play to assist Afghanistan achieves its vision for peace, development and self-reliance.
