The United States has underlined the importance of Pakistan's role in bringing stability to Afghanistan, which heads to presidential and provincial elections on April 5.
"Pakistan is a critical partner in supporting Afghanistan's stability, particularly in areas of security and economic transitions," the US special representative for the two countries said.
According to news agency APP, James Dobbins told a Pakistan Day function in Washington the US appreciated the support Pakistan had lent to the process of reconciliation in Afghanistan.
Pakistan Ambassador Jalil Abbas Jilani and Dobbins called for the vital cooperative relationship between the two countries to continue. Despite ups and downs, the relationship had been resilient, Jilani remarked.
Washington and Islamabad were working closely to promote peace and stability in the wider region, and also cooperating in the fight against extremism and terrorism, he added.
Ambassador Robin Raphael, officials from the Pentagon and several departments, Congresswoman Sheila Jackson Lee and writers attended the reception.
