The United Nations on Saturday underlined the need for peace and stability as Afghans take their future in their own hands in a democratic process as part of the historic transition.
A day before the start of Ramadan, the UN secretary-general’s special representative congratulated the people and government of Afghanistan and wished them peace and happiness..
“The need for peace and stability is even more urgent now as Afghans take their future in their own hands in a democratic process that forms part of the historic transition vital to the country’s future,” Jan Kubis said.
In a statement, he said the occasion of Ramadan, observed in a spirit of peace and compassion, can help pave the way for this long-cherished goal. “Once again, I call upon all parties to the conflict to respect the sanctity of this month and allow Afghan families to worship...”
He reaffirmed that, along with the United Nations family in the country, the UNAMA remained impartial and steadfast in its commitment to the Afghan people in their quest for unity, security, stability and prosperity.
