After holding separate meetings with both candidates, President Hamid Karzai on Saturday expressed optimisms Abdullah and Ashraf Ghani would reach a final agreement in the next two days.
“I found the candidates have built coordination and mutual understanding,” he told a meeting of the Ulema Council, according to a statement from the Presidential Palace.
“God willing, differences between the two will be resolved in the next two days. In fact, they have almost been resolved,” Karzai added. The Ulema Council urged Abdullah and Ahmadzai to break the deadlock.
Separately, the Independent Election Commission (IEC) said that final results would be announced soon. However, the commission stopped short of giving a specific date.
