Bulgaria has waved off 42 million dollars of over $50 million loan it has granted Afghanistan, the Finance Ministry said on Sunday.
The remaining around could be paid in small installments over the next decade. The ministry said Bulgaria had granted 50 million dollars aid during the 1970s and 80s.
A statement said Finance Minister Omar Zakhelwal signed the loan waiver deal with his Bulgarian counterpart Rumen Porodzanov in Sofia. Since 2006, Afghanistan has been listed as a country needing financial assistance.
