Pakistan can play key role in Afghan peace bid: Musazai

The Afghan ambassador in Islamabad said Pakistan could play a key role in bringing peace and stability to Afghanistan, hoping the new administration in Kabul would open a new chapter in ties between the neighbours

To a question regarding Pakistan’s cooperation in achieving peace in Afghanistan, Janan Musazai told Voice of America Urdu Service that the new government in Kabul would do every bit for stability in the war-torn country.“Pakistan can play a crucial role in Afghanistan’s efforts to achieve peace and we appreciate and welcome Pakistan’s efforts to that end.”Musazai said Kabul gave much importance to its relations with Islamabad and wanted these relations to be changed into “special relations.”“I assure you that the new President Ashraf Ghani Ahmadzai and Chief Executive Officer Abdullah Abdullah and all the Afghan government want to give a new dimension to the relations with Pakistan.”He said his country wanted to do away with the distrust between the two countries and enhance cooperation.About the security arrangements Afghanistan had recently signed with the US and NATO, Musazai said the bilateral security agreement (BSA) would further cement relationship between Kabul and Washington.The accords would help Afghanistan cope with its challenges, including terrorism, he said.
