ndsThe spy service on Sunday claimed thwarting a group suicide attack on senior Ministry of Interior (MoI) officials in Kabul.

The National Directorate of Security (NDS) said a five-member group of militants planned to launch a coordinated suicide attack on MoI officials.

But the group was busted by NDS operatives in the eighth police district, a statement from the intelligence agency said.

Without giving the exact time and location of the raid, the NDS said suicide vests, 20 hand grenades, two pistols and two military uniforms were recovered from the detainees.

The would-be attackers had been planning to enter the ministry’s building in an armoured vehicle in military uniform by using fake ID cards. Their target was a gathering involving senior officials.

The would-be attacker was identified as Nasrullah, son of Noor Ahmad, a resident of Peshawar and a graduate of an Islamabad university. Nasrullah was branded as facilitator.

The detainees included Asmatullah, son of Janat Gul, who harboured the suicide bombers, and Nizamuddin, son of Amir Gul.

The remaining two were identified as Azizur Rahman, son of Fazl Rahman, and Nazar Mohammad, son of Khair Mohammad.

The NDS said the detainees had confessed to the intended crime during preliminary investigation. There has been no word from the Taliban about the group’s arrest.
