An annual poetry session--- Helmand River--- attended by dozens of poets and writers was held in Lashkargah, the capital of southern Helmand province, but this time only provincial poets attended the event.
Earlier, the session would organize at the Helmand riverside with attendance of hundreds of noted poets but this year the session had to be arranged in the provincial capital in which 200 poets and writers took part.
Before formal start of poetry session, written statements of President Mohammad Ashraf Ghani and minister for information and culture were read out.
Ali Shah Mazloomyar, director information and culture, said poets from other provinces were not invited so that local poets could get enough time to express their couplets.
Praising to hold such kinds of events, he said: “Arranging cultural and literary gatherings rejuvenate our culture and rich tradition.
These kinds of sessions also help forge greater unity and peace among people.” After his speech, different poets and writers presented their views and praised the culture and civilization of the area and region.
