The general security situation was discussed during a meeting of the National Security Council, chaired by President Ashraf Ghani, the Presidential Palace said on Wednesday.
Defence and interior ministers and the chief of army staff presented their reports on the security environment at Tuesday’s in meeting, a statement from the Presidential Palace said.
Recent search operations in towns around Kabul and Hesarak, Sherzad and Khogyani districts of Nangarhar province were hailed as a success, the statement added.
Insurgents had suffered heavy casualties in the three districts of Nangarhar and on the Khak-i-Jabar-Azra road, the security personnel told the meeting.
Current challenges to the people of Afghanistan and other problems were also discussed, with security officials directed to stay alert. Sacrifices of the security personnel were appreciated.
