National Security Advisor Hanif Atmar has reached Belgium on an official visit to meet NATO leaders ahead of the alliance’s upcoming summits on Afghanistan, his office said Wednesday.
National Security Council (NSC) spokesman Tawab Ghorzang told Pajhwok Afghan News that Atmar after his successful talks with Indian officials left New Delhi for Brussels on Tuesday.
He said Atamr met with European Union officials and was scheduled to meet NATO leaders on Tuesday.
The meetings with Atmar would involve NATO Secretary General Jens Stoltenberg, ambassadors from the North Atlantic Council (NAC) and NATO’s military and civilian officials, Ghorzang said.
He said the meetings would discuss the military alliance’s civil and military cooperation with Afghanistan and future plans.
The NSC spokesman said the meetings were part of preparations for next month’s NATO foreign ministerial meeting mainly focused on Afghanistan.
He said a number of economic conferences on Afghanistan would take place in Europe in the future and the Afghan government wanted to draw proper plans for the events.
As part of preparations for the future conferences, a number of Afghan delegations would visit European countries, Ghorzang said.
