President Ashraf Ghani on Tuesday directed the security personnel to try their level best to ensure the protection of journalists, his office said.
Ghani issued the directives during a meeting with leaders and employees of Tolo TV, Tolo News and Kabura Production at the Presidential Palace in the morning.
He saidmedia was free and the government was responsible for providing it security to uphold the freed of expression, according to a statement from the president’s office.
“The aim of terrorists was to challenge the freedom of speech. We are all in the same boat. If anyone of us is suffering, we are all affected,” the president commented.
During the meeting, Ghani pledged to assist the families that lost their loved ones in the recent suicide attack on Tolo staff in the heart of Kabul.
At least seven workers were killed and 26 others injured late on Wednesday when a suicide bomber detonated his explosives near the minibus at the Allauddin intersection in the third police district.
