MRRD Signs Contracts for 55 new Projects

mrrdAt a sum of AFN 220 million including 10% community contribution, the contracts for 55 public utility projects were signed today between the Ministry of Rural Rehabilitation and Development (MRRD) and representatives of Community Development Councils (CDCs) of thirteen provinces.

The contracts were signed by Minister Nasir Ahmad Durrani and representatives of Community Development Councils for the provinces of Balkh, Baghlan, Badakhshan, Panjshir, Ghor, Parwan, Bamyan, Laghman, Takhar, Paktia, Faryab, Nuristan and Sar-I-Pul. These projects which were already planed under the emergency services for victims of natural disasters include: renovation and reconstruction of retaining walls, irrigation canals, water-intakes, rural road and bridge.
Addressing those at the signing ceremony Minister Nasir Ahmad Durrani said,”The above mentioned projects will not only resolve the community problems of 145,262 rural residents, but 150,549 labor days will also be created during the implementation of these projects. This way, rural people will be provided with additional employment opportunities through maintenance and protection of projects under the auspices of National Employment Program for Peace.”
At the same time, the MRRD Minister emphasised to the implementers the importance of paying attention to the quality and asked the local people to pay attention to the maintenance and protection of the implemented projects to ensure their sustainability into the future.
To date, the Ministry of Rural Rehabilitation and Development (MRRD) could manage to sign the contracts of 276 uplift projects for flood affected areas worth of AFN 895 million with the Community Development Councils (CDCs). As a result of these contracts, the flood destroyed projects will be constructed promptly together with high quality.
