Addressing MPs in the Wolesi Jirga (Lower House of Parliament), during his introduction of nominees for the head of NDS and minister of defense positions, Second Vice President Mohammad Sarwar Danish on Wednesday called on the enemies of Afghanistan to respect Ramazan and stop fighting during the holy month.
He said security is a priority for government but the enemies are not willing to work for peace and instead continue their attacks.
"But our security forces .... Have targeted insurgents and foiled attacks" in a number of provinces around the country, he said.
He said in the current situation, Afghanistan needs unity more now than ever before especially as the enemies use all opportunities available to carry out attacks.
In addition, all government organizations need to share the same views, he said.
Danish went on to say that this year, Afghanistan has witnessed the implementation of large economic projects.
He said government is committed to rolling out other large development projects, which have so far included the TAPI project as well as Salma Dam.
He said foreign investment is coming into the country and that government is working on dozens of other projects, particularly projects to supply electricity to central and eastern parts of the country.
Danish then went on to introduce two nominees for a vote of confidence by MPs in parliament.
They were Masoom Stanekzai for position of head of NDS and Gen. Abdullah Khan Habibi as Defense Minister.
Danish pointed out that security forces need strong leaders. However, he noted that there had been a marked increase in cooperation between the security organizations over the past few months.
