Speaking on the eve of the NATO Defense Ministers meeting, NATO Secretary General Jens Stoltenberg said that over the next two days, the ministers will pave the way for decisions that will be taken at the Warsaw Summit next month.
Stoltenberg said that one of the main themes at the Defense Ministerial, which started Tuesday, and one of the main themes at the upcoming summit would be on projecting stability.
"Projecting stability is how NATO can work with partners, with forces in the south, in our neighbourhood to help them stabilize their own countries, to help them fight terrorism and to help them fight extremism."
He said: "This has to be done in a tailored way in different countries, that's exactly actually what we do in Afghanistan now. We have ended our combat mission there but we do train, assist and advise, we help the Afghan National Security Forces fight extremism, terrorism themselves."
"We help them to be able to take full responsibility for security in their own country themselves. We have also started to do that in Iraq meaning that we have started to train Iraqi officers in Jordan."
