An additional force of 250 Afghan Local Police (ALP) personnel is being deployed to three restive districts of Southeastern Paktika province, officials said on Wednesday.
The fresh deployment of ALP to Omana, Gayan and Matta Khan districts had been initiated, Maj. Gen. Nabi Jan Mullakhel, the provincial police chief, told Pajhwok Afghan News.
Paktika had a total 2,000 ALP members, working efficiently to improve the security situation in the province, he added. He hoped the deployment of additional ALP officers would help strengthen law and order ahead of the elections.
Governor Mohibullah Samim said the ALP already had been playing a significant role in bolstering security and the fresh deployment would further stabilise the province in terms of law and order.
