Helmand offensives leave 16 rebels dead

ana-soldier-in-dutySixteen rebels were killed and 13 others wounded during separate cleanup operations in southern Helmand province, an official said on Tuesday.

Rebel commanders Mullah Syed Ahmad and Agha Muhammad were killed along with six accomplices in Greshk district late on Monday, said a spokesman for the 215th Maiwand Military Corps, Muhammad Rassoul Zazai.
He told Pajhwok Afghan News the operation was conducted by the Afghan National Army (ANA). A motorbike was also seized by the security forces.

Five more fighters were killed and six others wounded in another offensive close to Lashkargah and Sangin district, Zazai added. At the same time, three militants were killed and seven injured in a search offensive.
