The International Committee for the Red Cross (ICRC) has pledged an increase in the number of beds at the Mirwais Hospital in southern Kandahar province to facilitate patients.
Samim Khpalwak, the governor’s spokesman, told Pajhwok Afghan News on Wednesday the pledge was made by Jane Nicholas Martin, head of the ICRC in Afghanistan, during a meeting with Governor Toryalai Wisa.
During his visit to Kandahar, he said his trip to the southern province was aimed to assess health problems being faced by the people.
He said Mirwais Hospital had 450-beds which did not cater the large number of patients and its bed number was needed to be increased.
The governor lauded the ICRC’s head for his keen interest to bolster the health sector and to enhance the number of beds of the hospital.
