During a visit to Logar province, H.E. Eng. Nasir Ahmad Durrani, the Minister of Rural Rehabilitation and Development (MRRD), inaugurated 94 uplift projects of the National Solidarity Program in Pul-i-Alam, Baraki Barak, Charkh, Kharwar, Khoshi, Mohammad Agha and Azra districts of Logar province, worth of AFN 136 million and 961 thousand.
Accompanied by the provincial Governor, Mr. Mohammad Halim Fedai, local authorities, Rural Rehabilitation and Development Director, elders, prominent figures, and Community Development Council (CDC) and District Development Authority (DDA) Heads, the MRRD Minister inaugurated a 40 meters long bridge worth of AFN 12 million and 30 safe drinking water wells in Pul-i-Alam and Mohammad Agha districts.
Addressing those at the inaugural ceremony, Minister Durrani asked the local people to pay attention to the maintenance and protection of the implemented projects to ensure their sustainability into the future. He asked the people to enhance their cooperation with the Rural Rehabilitation and Development Directorate in Logar to support rural development across the province.
The inaugurated projects include: irrigational canals 2677 meters in length, retaining walls 5010 meters in length, protection walls 2233 meters in length, 106 culverts, pathways 16,846 meters in length, gravelling of more than seven-km rural roads, five irrigation water reservoirs, 16 social centers, 235 meters boundary walls, 10 safe drinking water reservoirs, micro hydro power, extension of approximately 66-km water supply networks, kariz (underground canal) 761 meters in length and excavation of 176 safe drinking water wells along with installation of hand pumps.
Approximately, 13,695 families in various communities have gained access to basic human needs upon completion of these projects.
At the same time, the Minister of Rural Rehabilitation and Development accompanied by the delegation inaugurated the first phase of a development project in Mohammad Agha district of Logar province.
The first phase of the development project includes the construction of 1622 meters long retaining wall in Mahmoodan Naib Hafizullah, Khodi Khel, Merki Khel, Geli Khel and Obaid Khel villages of Mohammad Agha district.
Funded by the Asian Development Bank (ADB), the retaining wall will be constructed in close collaboration with CDCs through the Regional Programs of the Ministry of Rural Rehabilitation and Development (RP/MRRD), worth of AFN 25 million and 218 thousand.
With the implementation of this project 455 acres of farming lands, gardens and residential houses of 1150 households will be protected from the risks of monsoon rainfalls. Also short term employment opportunity would be created for 5022 professional and 12484 unprofessional workers where professional workers will be paid 700 Afs and unprofessional ones 350 Afs per day.
Once the design and survey process is completed, the second phase of the project will be contracted in upcoming year.
With funds from the Ministry of Rural Rehabilitation and Development, together with the hard work of the local people, these projects will provide easy and safe access to many facilities.
