Urban residents of Badghis province will gain access to safe drinking water

H.E. Eng. Nasir Ahmad Durrani, the Minister of Rural Rehabilitation and Development of the Islamic Republic of Afghanistan met today in his office with the Ambassador of the Kingdom of Spain to Afghanistan, Mr. Emilio Pérez de Agreda.

drinking-waterIn the meeting, where representative of the United Nations Development Program (UNDP) and Executive Director of Rural Water Supply, Sanitation and Irrigation Program (Ru-WatSIP) were also present, the two sides discussed issues of mutual interest especially the process of rural development throughout Afghanistan.

Also, in this meeting, Minister Durrani expressed his gratitude for Spain’s cooperation and assistance in water supply sector, particularly Qal-e-Naw water supply project being supported by the Kingdom of Spain in Badghis province.

Following the discussions on Qal-e-Naw water supply project, the two sides deemed that the first and second phases of the project are successfully completed. Similarly, they spoke on fundraising for the third phase of the water supply project mentioned above.

As a result of the discussions, the Ambassador of friendly country Kingdom of Spain committed that his country will assist the Ministry of Rural Rehabilitation and Development (MRRD) with USD 1.2 million for the successful completion of Qal-e-Naw water supply project.

It is worth mentioning that upon the completion of Qal-e-Naw water supply project nearly 60,000 rural and urban residents of Badghis province will gain access to safe drinking water.
