Police have foiled an attempt to smuggle more than 130 kilograms of drugs to Iran in southwestern Nimroz province, officials said on Thursday.
The provincial police headquarters said the drugs were seized from a transit truck near the border with Iran. Police also captured two smugglers who belong to Farah province.
In another incident, the Nimroz police chief said 60 kilograms of drugs had been seized from a car on the outskirts of Zaranj, the provincial capital.
Brig. Gen. Mohammad Qaseem Jangal Bagh told Pajhwok Afghan News the car was intercepted near Camp Hindi area. Two suspects were detained in connection with the smuggling attempt.
Two month ago, another attempt of smuggling 52 kilogram opium to Iran had been foiled by security forces. Locals say police have prevented several transit trucks from smuggling drugs to the neighboring country.
