Children with disabilities performed Afghan National Anthem in sign language during inauguration of two day workshop on inclusive education in Mazar. Swedish Committee for Afghanistan supported these children in inclusive education and has enrolled them to mainstream schools.
SCA conducted a two day awareness raising workshop to build the capacity of Provincial and District Departments’ staff in inclusive education.
“It was very difficult to accept inclusive education. But SCA made it possible to include children with disabilities in mainstream schools. Fortunately as a result, we can see that students with disabilities are getting top numbers and grades among non- disabled students,” said Mr. Abdul Aziz Azizi, head of Balkh Education Department
“SCA activities regarding Rehabilitation Afghans with Disabilities are very effective and Provincial Department appreciates that,” added Azizi
In this event, Arsalan , Najeebullah intellectually impaired student and Khadija, visually impaired student also presented their messages to audience that showed their improved communication skills by including them to mainstream schools, and their hope for future.
All participants promised to support inclusive education program. This workshop was also covered by local and national TV channels.
Balkh Education Director Mowlawi Abdul Aziz Azizi, representative of Balkh provincial council, head of Mazar schools, school teachers, authorities, Provincial Education Department in charges, District Education Department heads, Educational Supervision Teams of Balkh at provincial and district levels, School Management Committees, parents of children with disabilities, disabled persons organization in charge participated in this workshop.
Fortunately up to now, 1078 children with disabilities were included in 114 mainstream schools in Balkh, Jawzjan and Samangan provinces, by SCA.
