Afghan gov’t hopes the ceasefire will help peace talks revival

The Afghan government welcomed the announcement of a ceasefire by the Taliban group as the officials express hopes that the ceasefire would lead to the revival of peace talks.

A Presidential spokesperson Haroon Chakhansuri told reporters that the government welcomes any move that leads to prevention of violence and bloodshed.

He also expressed hopes that the ceasefire will result into the revival of peace talks for reconciliation.

This comes as the Taliban group announced earlier today that the leadership of the group has decided to declared ceasefire during the three days of Eid-ul-Fitr during which no attack will be carried out on Afghan forces.

However, the Taliban says the fighter of the group will respond to any aggression during the period of the ceasefire.

According to a statement released by Taliban, the leadership of the group may also consider the release of the prisoners of war, provided that they will not return to the battlefield.
